Adrian Sîrbu graduated from the “St. Basil the Great” Orthodox Theological Seminary of Iași, he holds two Bachelor’s degrees, from the “Dumitru Stăniloae” Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Iaşi, and from the Faculty of Composition, Musicology, Musical Pedagogy, and Theatre of the “George Enescu” University of the Arts from Iaşi, and a Master’s degree in in “Christian philosophy and Cultural dialogue” from the Faculty of Philosophy of the “Al. I. Cuza” University of Iași. He also graduated the Master program in Byzantine music of the State Conservatory of Athens, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Georgios Konstantinou. He is an alumni of the “Ζωοδόχου Πιγής” School of Byzantine Music from Athens and of State Conservatory of Athens, department of Byzantine Music, where he studied with Professor Lykourgos Angelopoulos, Archon Protopsaltes of the Ecumenical Archdiocese of Constantinople.

As the conductor of the BYZANTION Choir, that he founded in 1997, Adrian Sîrbu has developed many activities as a performer and researcher, and he took part in numerous festivals, international symposiums, and tours in Romania, Greece, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Poland, Belgium, Spain, Russia, and the Czech Republic; he also participated in the festal Church Services from the Country and the Athos Mountain and edited 13 albums of byzantine music and Christmas carols. From 2004 he is a member of the Greek Byzantine Choir (Athens) and from 2010 he is a member of the Medieval Music Choir of Graindelavoix (Belgium). 

He expanded his research activity by publishing several articles in specialist journals and by translating several books from Greek into Romanian, such as “The Theory and Practice of Church Music” by Georgios Konstantinou, “The importance of Simon Karas’s research and teaching method in the signalling and inventorying of heironomic signs (oral interpretation of written tradition)”, and “The voices of Byzantium” by Lykourgos Angelopoulos. Adrian Sîrbu is also the architect and the main coordinator of the International Masterclass of Byzantine Chant, organised since 2008 at the University of the Arts in Iași.

Since 2009, he is a junior teaching assistant within the Department of Religious Music of “George Enescu” University of the Arts from Iaşi, and he is also the president of the “Byzantion” Cultural Foundation, Iași.

Since 2011, he is a PhD student within the Faculty of Musical Studies of the “Aristotle” University of Thessaloniki, under the scientific supervision of Professor Dr. Maria Alexandru.
